Drug intelligence / Profile preview
PVA Plus is an over-the-counter (OTC) ophthalmic lubricant used for the temporary relief of burning and irritation caused by dry eyes or exposure to environmental factors such as wind and sun. It is a combination formulation typically containing polyvinyl alcohol (1.4%) and povidone (0.6%). Polyvinyl alcohol is a water-soluble synthetic polymer that increases the viscosity of the solution, thereby prolonging the contact time with the ocular surface and stabilizing the tear film. Povidone, also known as polyvinylpyrrolidone, serves as a demulcent that provides a soothing effect and reduces friction during blinking. Together, these ingredients act as a tear substitute to maintain ocular hydration and protect the corneal epithelium from mechanical irritation and moisture loss.
