pVR1012-interleukin-12 (pVR1012-IL-12) is an experimental DNA plasmid construct designed for the expression of bioactive interleukin-12 (IL-12). It consists of a single-chain murine IL-12 cDNA, comprising the p40 and p35 subunits, cloned into the pVR1012 eukaryotic expression vector. Functioning as an immunomodulatory cytokine, the expressed IL-12 enhances Th1-type immune responses, stimulates the secretion of interferon-gamma (IFN-γ), and promotes the recruitment of CD4+ and CD8+ T cells. In research settings, it has been evaluated as a gene vaccine adjuvant for fungal infections like coccidioidomycosis and as an anti-tumor agent in mouse melanoma models, where it can be administered as naked DNA or delivered via mesenchymal stem cells.
