PX004 is a small molecule inhibitor of the Pannexin 1 (Panx1) channel, currently in preclinical development by Pannex Therapeutics (also known as Panex) as a lead candidate for neurological disorders. Pannexin 1 channels are non-selective large-pore membrane channels that facilitate the release of ATP and other signaling molecules in response to cellular stress, playing a critical role in neuroinflammation, chronic pain, and neuronal damage. By selectively blocking Panx1, PX004 aims to modulate these pathological pathways, with potential therapeutic applications in treating conditions such as neuropathic pain and stroke. The compound was selected as the company's final neurology lead following lead optimization efforts.
