Developed by Protemix Corporation Limited, it is characterized by specific carbohydrate side chains that confer potent biological properties absent in non-glycosylated forms. Its primary mechanism of action involves suppressing hepatic glucose production by potentiating insulin action, likely through the activation of adiponectin receptors. Preclinical studies have demonstrated its potential to reverse both alcoholic and non-alcoholic liver damage and to act as a potent inhibitor of the proinflammatory cytokine TNF-alpha.
