PXS-5338K is an investigational oral small molecule inhibitor of lysyl oxidase-like 2 (LOXL2), developed by Pharmaxis Ltd (now Syntara Limited) in collaboration with Synairgen. LOXL2 is an enzyme that plays a critical role in the cross-linking of collagen fibers, a key process in the development and progression of tissue fibrosis. By inhibiting LOXL2, PXS-5338K aims to reduce the accumulation of fibrotic tissue in organs such as the liver and lungs. The drug has been evaluated in Phase 1 clinical trials for the treatment of fibrotic diseases, including nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), where it demonstrated a favorable safety profile and significant inhibition of the LOXL2 enzyme.
