Overview

PXS2000 is a small molecule dual inhibitor of semicarbazide-sensitive amine oxidase (SSAO), also known as vascular adhesion protein-1 (VAP-1), and myeloperoxidase (MPO). Developed by Syntara (formerly Pharmaxis), the compound is designed to address inflammatory and fibrotic conditions by simultaneously blocking two distinct pathways of oxidative stress and leukocyte recruitment. SSAO/VAP-1 facilitates the migration of white blood cells into inflamed tissues and generates hydrogen peroxide, while MPO produces highly reactive oxygen species like hypochlorous acid. By inhibiting both enzymes, PXS2000 aims to reduce tissue damage and fibrosis more effectively than single-target agents. It has been investigated in preclinical models for indications such as non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) and chronic inflammatory respiratory diseases.
