Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Pylopass PRO is a nutraceutical formulation featuring the heat-inactivated probiotic strain Lactobacillus reuteri DSM 17648, originally developed by Organobalance (now part of Novozymes). It is primarily indicated for the reduction of Helicobacter pylori levels in the stomach, a major risk factor for gastritis and peptic ulcers. The mechanism of action is distinct from traditional probiotics; rather than colonizing the gut, the inactivated cells of L. reuteri DSM 17648 possess specific surface molecules that bind to H. pylori through a process called co-aggregation. These aggregates are then naturally eliminated from the gastrointestinal tract. This physical sequestration reduces the bacterial load of H. pylori without disturbing the commensal microbiota or inducing antibiotic resistance, making it a valuable tool for gastric health management.
