Overview

Pyobacteriophage is a polyvalent bacteriophage preparation composed of a sterile mixture of phage filtrates that specifically target and lyse several common pyogenic (pus-forming) bacteria. Developed and manufactured primarily by **Microgen** in Russia, this cocktail is designed to treat various inflammatory and purulent infections, including those of the respiratory tract, urinary system, and skin. Its therapeutic action relies on the lytic cycle of bacteriophages: the viruses attach to specific receptors on the bacterial cell wall, inject their genetic material, and hijack the cellular machinery to produce new phage particles, ultimately causing the bacterial cell to burst (lysis). This targeted approach allows for the treatment of infections, including those caused by multidrug-resistant (MDR) strains, while minimizing impact on the natural human microbiota.
