Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Pyolysin is a topical wound-healing ointment manufactured by Serum-Werk Bernburg. It contains a bacterial lysate (culture filtrate) derived from several common pathogens, including *Staphylococcus aureus*, *Streptococcus pyogenes*, *Escherichia coli*, *Enterococcus faecalis*, and *Pseudomonas aeruginosa*. This lysate acts as a local immunostimulant, enhancing the recruitment of phagocytes and promoting the formation of granulation tissue to accelerate the healing of infected or poorly healing wounds, such as leg ulcers and pressure sores. The formulation also includes salicylic acid, which provides keratolytic and antimicrobial activity, and zinc oxide, which acts as a skin protectant and astringent.
