Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Pyolysin Salbe (brand name: Pyolysin Wund- und Heilsalbe) is a topical over-the-counter dermatological combination preparation developed and manufactured by Serumwerk Bernburg AG. It is formulated as an ointment containing Pyolysin culture filtrate (a bacterial lysate combination derived from *Escherichia coli*, *Pseudomonas aeruginosa*, *Streptococcus pyogenes*, *Enterococcus faecalis*, and *Staphylococcus aureus*), salicylic acid, and zinc oxide. The ointment is indicated for the treatment of superficial wounds (such as scrapes and abrasions), infected skin conditions (including pressure ulcers and leg ulcers), and superficial skin infections like impetigo contagiosa and folliculitis. Salicylic acid acts as a keratolytic and enhances skin absorption, while zinc oxide provides mild antiseptic and skin-protective properties. The bacterial lysate component stimulates local immune defenses and modulates inflammatory responses. A Phase 3 clinical study has been conducted in Germany to evaluate the dermatological compatibility and wound healing of Pyolysin Salbe in children aged 0 to 17 years.
