Pyralvex

**Pyralvex** is a topical buccal solution combining anthraquinone glycosides from rhubarb extract and salicylic acid, used for the local treatment of mild inflammatory conditions of the oral mucosa, such as mouth ulcers (aphthae) and irritations from dentures or orthodontic appliances. The rhubarb extract provides vasoconstrictive, haemostatic, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial effects by contracting surface tissues and capillaries, while salicylic acid acts as a cyclooxygenase inhibitor to reduce prostaglandin production, thereby alleviating pain, inflammation, and sensitivity. It is applied 3-4 times daily via brush to affected areas in adults and children over 12 years, with over-the-counter availability in various countries, though contraindicated in salicylate allergy, children under 12, and with precautions for alcohol content and potential dental discoloration.[1][3][5][7]
