Overview

Pyranopyridine efflux pump inhibitors are a class of small molecule inhibitors developed by Microbiotix to target the AcrAB-TolC Resistance-Nodulation-Division (RND) efflux pump system in Gram-negative bacteria. By blocking these pumps, which are a primary mechanism for antibiotic resistance in Enterobacteriaceae, these compounds are designed to potentiate the activity of existing FDA-approved antibiotics, restore their efficacy against multi-drug resistant (MDR) strains, and reduce the emergence of further resistance. The program is currently in the lead optimization stage, focusing on treating infections caused by pathogenic and carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE).
