Overview

Pyratine is a topical skincare line featuring the active ingredient furfuryl tetrahydropyranyladenine (PRK-124), a synthetic, nature-identical plant cytokinin. Originally developed by Senetek PLC and later managed by Pyratine LLC, the compound is a second-generation cytokinin designed to treat inflammatory skin conditions and signs of photodamage. As a plant growth factor analog, it modulates cell senescence and inflammatory pathways, effectively reducing facial erythema (redness), inflammatory lesions, and hyperpigmentation. Clinical trials have demonstrated its efficacy in treating mild-to-moderate rosacea, inflammatory acne, atopic dermatitis, and melasma. Unlike many traditional topical treatments such as retinoids, Pyratine is non-irritating and helps repair the skin's moisture barrier, making it suitable for long-term use in patients with sensitive or compromised skin.
