KIMS-002 is an incrementally modified drug (IMD) developed by Kims Pharmaceutical for the treatment of myasthenia gravis. It is a formulation of pyridostigmine bromide, a reversible acetylcholinesterase inhibitor that serves as a standard therapy for improving muscle strength and reducing fatigue in patients with myasthenia. The drug works by inhibiting the acetylcholinesterase enzyme at the neuromuscular junction, thereby increasing the concentration and duration of action of acetylcholine at the synaptic cleft. As an IMD, KIMS-002 represents an improved version of existing pyridostigmine therapies, likely optimized for better pharmacokinetics or patient compliance. The program entered Phase 1 clinical trials in 2021 and received regulatory approval in South Korea in 2023.
