Overview

Pyridoxine phosphate (PNP) is a phosphorylated form of pyridoxine, a B6 vitamer, and serves as a crucial intermediate in the vitamin B6 metabolic pathway. It is a direct precursor to pyridoxal phosphate (PLP), the active coenzyme form of vitamin B6, which is essential for numerous enzymatic reactions, particularly in neurotransmitter synthesis. PNP levels are tightly regulated, as it can inhibit PLP-dependent enzymes. It is converted to PLP by enzymes such as pyridoxine phosphate oxidase (PNPO) and pyridoxine/pyridoxamine phosphate oxidase (PPOX), and can be dephosphorylated by phosphatases like pyridoxal phosphatase and YigL. Therapeutically, it is used to address conditions related to impaired PLP synthesis, such as certain forms of epilepsy.
