pyriprole

Pyriprole is a small molecule phenylpyrazole ectoparasiticide developed by Nihon Nohyaku and marketed under the brand name Prac-tic for veterinary medicine. It is primarily used for the treatment and prevention of flea (*Ctenocephalides* spp.) and tick (*Ixodes* spp., *Rhipicephalus* spp., *Dermacentor* spp.) infestations in dogs. The drug's mechanism of action involves the inhibition of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA)-gated chloride channels in the central nervous system of insects and acarids. By acting as an antagonist, pyriprole blocks the inhibitory neurotransmission of GABA, leading to uncontrolled neuronal hyperactivity, paralysis, and the eventual death of the parasites upon contact. Formulated as a topical spot-on solution, it provides persistent efficacy against reinfestation for approximately four weeks.
