pyriproxyfen + alphacypermethrin is a combination insecticide and insect growth regulator (IGR) primarily used in public health and veterinary medicine. Alphacypermethrin is a synthetic Type II pyrethroid that acts as a potent neurotoxin by modulating voltage-gated sodium channels in insect nerve cells. It prevents the channels from closing, leading to prolonged sodium influx, repetitive nerve firing, paralysis, and rapid death (knockdown effect). Pyriproxyfen is a juvenile hormone analog that mimics natural insect hormones to disrupt the life cycle. It prevents larvae from maturing into adults and significantly reduces the reproductive capacity of adult insects by inducing sterility in females. This dual-action approach is particularly effective for managing insecticide resistance in mosquito populations, such as those carrying malaria, and for controlling ectoparasites in livestock and pets.
