pyrithiamine

Pyrithiamine is a thiamine antagonist that inhibits the metabolism of thiamine (vitamin B₁) by acting as a competitive inhibitor of thiamine pyrophosphokinase, the enzyme responsible for converting thiamine to its active form, thiamine pyrophosphate[5][9]. It is not used therapeutically but is employed in research to experimentally induce thiamine deficiency in animal models, thereby studying the physiological effects of thiamine deficiency.
