pyrithyldione

Pyrithyldione is a psychoactive small molecule drug developed in 1949 and used primarily as a hypnotic or sedative for the short-term management of insomnia and as a daytime sedative. It was considered to have certain advantages over barbiturates due to presumed lower toxicity. Its mechanism of action is as a positive allosteric modulator of the GABA A receptor. Agranulocytosis has been reported as an adverse effect. The drug is also known to induce Cytochrome P450 2D6 enzyme activity but less potently than glutethimide. Pyrithyldione is no longer in clinical use[1][3][4].
