Andres. It is a chemically complex herbal medicine containing over 70 identified compounds, including flavonoids (such as hyperoside), phenolic glycosides, quinones (notably chimaphilin), and terpenoids (such as ursolic acid). The herb is traditionally valued for its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and osteoprotective properties. In clinical practice, particularly within China, it is used to treat a wide range of conditions including rheumatic and rheumatoid arthritis, bone hyperplasia, sciatica, and chronic bronchitis. Research suggests it may also have applications in managing hypertension, coronary heart disease, and certain tumors by modulating multiple biological pathways rather than acting on a single molecular target.
