Pyrrolidine dithiocarbamate (PDTC) is a small molecule compound belonging to the dithiocarbamate family. It acts as a metal chelator and has demonstrated antioxidant properties. PDTC is best known as an inhibitor of nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) signaling and also inhibits STAT3 activation. It can induce G1 phase cell cycle arrest and prevent induction of nitric oxide synthase. PDTC forms complexes with transition metals such as zinc, which can enter cells and inhibit viral RNA-dependent RNA polymerase activity[1][5][7]. In preclinical studies, it has shown anti-inflammatory effects, radical scavenging activity, and potential anticancer properties by reversing resistance to apoptosis in cancer cells overexpressing Bcl-xL protein[5]. Additionally, it has been investigated for its ability to attenuate cancer cachexia in animal models by modulating IL-6/STAT3/NF-κB pathways[7].
