Drug intelligence / Profile preview
PYS phage (also referred to as P¥S phage) is a lytic bacteriophage belonging to the *Autoscriptoviridae* family [1]. It is being developed as a topical hydrogel formulation for the treatment of burn wound infections caused by carbapenem-resistant *Pseudomonas aeruginosa* (CRPA) [1]. Isolated from environmental samples, PYS phage exhibits high specificity and lytic activity against CRPA, significant thermal stability (4–60°C), pH stability (5–9), and a short latency period of 15 minutes [1]. In preclinical models, treatment with the phage-loaded hydrogel significantly reduces bacterial burden, enhances biofilm eradication, improves wound closure rates, and promotes re-epithelialization and tissue recovery [1].
