Peptide YY (PYY) is a naturally occurring hormone released postprandially from L-cells in the gastrointestinal tract and acts as a physiological inhibitor of food intake by promoting satiety. The mechanism of action involves agonism at neuropeptide Y receptor type 2 (Y2R), primarily in the hypothalamic arcuate nucleus, leading to reduced neuropeptide Y release and appetite suppression. The drug was developed as a non-invasive treatment for obesity, aiming to reduce body weight by decreasing caloric intake through enhanced satiety signaling[1][2][4]. Clinical trials have shown that while intranasal administration is generally safe and well-tolerated at lower doses, higher doses are associated with significant nausea and vomiting.
