Overview

Qβ-C-TNF1-156 is an experimental vaccine candidate that consists of the full-length cytokine tumor necrosis factor (TNF, specifically TNFα, residues 1–156) chemically conjugated to the Qβ virus-like particle (VLP) platform using SMPH chemistry. This vaccine is designed to induce the production of neutralizing antibodies against both soluble and membrane-bound forms of TNF. In preclinical mouse models, immunization with Qβ-C-TNF1-156 effectively protected against collagen-induced arthritis, but it also increased susceptibility to Listeria monocytogenes infection and enhanced reactivation of latent Mycobacterium tuberculosis, suggesting that neutralization of both forms of TNF may compromise host defense against certain intracellular pathogens[1]. In contrast, vaccines targeting only soluble TNF did not increase infection risk[1]. Development appears to have been primarily for proof-of-concept and preclinical research, with no evidence of advancement to clinical trials in humans[1].
