Overview

Qβ VLP is a **virus-like particle** derived from the coat proteins of the *Escherichia coli* RNA bacteriophage Qβ. It is a non-infectious nanoparticle that mimics the structural properties of the Qβ virus but lacks viral genetic material, making it replication-incompetent[1][3]. Qβ VLPs self-assemble from the viral capsid proteins—primarily the coat protein—without incorporation of the maturation protein required for infectivity[3]. These particles are approximately 30 nm in diameter and have been widely utilized as a multivalent nano-scaffold in biomedical research. Due to their repetitive, high-density surface and ability to present foreign antigens, Qβ VLPs are used as platforms for vaccine development, immunotherapy, and nanomaterial delivery[4]. The mechanism of action in vaccine use is *antigen presentation*, which stimulates strong B cell and T cell immune responses by mimicking the epitope presentation of natural viruses without the risk of infection[1]. Qβ VLPs also serve as carriers for nucleic acids or small molecules in drug delivery and as functional nanoreactors in nanotechnology[4]. Developers in the academic and biotech sphere have focused on Qβ VLP engineering for diverse indications, including infectious diseases, cancer immunotherapy, and nanomedicine applications.
