Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Q fever multi-epitope vaccine is a T-cell-targeted vaccine candidate being developed by the Vaccine and Immunotherapy Center (VIC) at Massachusetts General Hospital, in collaboration with EpiVax and other partners under the Q-VaxCelerate consortium. The vaccine is designed to protect against Q fever, a zoonotic disease caused by the intracellular bacterium *Coxiella burnetii*, while avoiding the severe reactogenicity associated with the currently available whole-cell vaccine (Q-VAX). It utilizes immunoinformatically selected, highly conserved *C. burnetii* CD4+ T-cell epitope clusters to stimulate a protective, pathogen-specific cell-mediated immune response. Preclinical development has evaluated delivery of these epitope concatemers using viral vectors, such as adenovirus (ChAdOx2) and Modified Vaccinia Ankara (MVA), in animal models.
