Q-VAX is an Australian-manufactured vaccine designed to prevent Q fever, a zoonotic infection caused by the bacterium *Coxiella burnetii*. It is a whole-cell, inactivated (killed) bacterial vaccine derived from the Henzerling strain of the pathogen. The vaccine is primarily indicated for individuals aged 15 years and older who are at high occupational risk of exposure, such as abattoir workers, farmers, and veterinarians. Due to the potential for severe local and systemic hypersensitivity reactions in individuals with prior immunity, a rigorous pre-vaccination screening process involving both serological testing and a skin prick test is mandatory. Clinical development is currently expanding to evaluate the safety and immunogenicity of the vaccine in children aged 10 to 15 years through the 'Qfevervax1' trial.
