Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Q-octreotide is an investigational oral formulation of octreotide acetate, a synthetic cyclic octapeptide and somatostatin analog. Developed by Quality Chemical Laboratories, this formulation utilizes a proprietary drug delivery technology designed to overcome the low oral bioavailability typically associated with peptide drugs, allowing for systemic absorption via the gastrointestinal tract. Octreotide acts as a potent agonist at somatostatin receptors, particularly SSTR2 and SSTR5, which leads to the inhibition of growth hormone (GH), insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1), and various regulatory peptides in the gastroenteropancreatic system. The drug is primarily being developed as a non-invasive alternative to parenteral injections for the treatment of acromegaly and the management of symptoms associated with carcinoid syndrome.
