Overview
QAV680 is a small molecule, orally administered antagonist of the prostaglandin D2 receptor 2 (also known as CRTh2 or PTGDR2), developed by Novartis for the treatment of inflammatory and allergic conditions, particularly asthma and seasonal allergic rhinitis. It is a pyrrolopyridine derivative that exhibits high selectivity and low nanomolar potency in inhibiting CRTh2-driven activation of human eosinophils and Th2 lymphocytes in vitro. Preclinical studies demonstrated good oral bioavailability, favorable pharmacokinetics, and efficacy in rodent models of allergic disease. Clinical development reached Phase 2 trials for asthma and seasonal allergic rhinitis but was subsequently discontinued[1][4][5][7].
