Overview

QB-PCSK9207-223 is a virus-like particle (VLP)-based vaccine designed to lower cholesterol by targeting Proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9). PCSK9 is a secretory protein that regulates cholesterol homeostasis by promoting the degradation of low-density lipoprotein receptors (LDL-R). By inducing high-titer IgG antibodies that bind to circulating PCSK9, this vaccine aims to reduce PCSK9 activity, thereby decreasing total cholesterol, free cholesterol, phospholipids, and triglycerides. It is being investigated as an alternative to monoclonal antibody-based therapies for hypercholesterolemia, atherosclerosis, and cardiovascular disease.
