Overview

QBS10072S is a novel, first-in-class bifunctional chemotherapeutic agent designed to cross the blood-brain barrier (BBB) and selectively target rapidly growing cancer cells. It mimics an aromatic amino acid for cellular uptake via the L-type amino acid transporter 1 (LAT1), which is overexpressed in many aggressive cancers. This selective transport enables high concentrations of the drug in tumor tissue while sparing normal cells. Once inside cancer cells, QBS10072S acts as a cytotoxic alkylating agent—specifically a tertiary N-bis(2-chloroethyl)amine derivative—causing double-stranded DNA breaks and inducing cell death. The drug is being developed primarily for brain metastases (including from breast and lung cancers), glioblastoma, meningeal neoplasms/carcinomatosis, astrocytoma, and other central nervous system tumors[2][3][4][5][6].
