Overview

QEL-001 is a first-in-class, antigen-specific CAR-Treg (chimeric antigen receptor regulatory T cell) therapy developed using Quell Therapeutics' proprietary multi-modular engineered Treg platform. The therapy incorporates three key modules: a chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) for tissue targeting, the Foxp3 Phenotype Lock module to maintain regulatory function, and a safety switch. The CAR in QEL-001 is specific for HLA-A2, enabling targeted activity at the site of transplanted organs in HLA-A2 mismatched liver transplant patients (HLA-A2 negative recipients with an HLA-A2 positive donor liver). QEL-001 aims to induce immune tolerance and eliminate the need for lifelong systemic immunosuppression by preventing organ rejection after liver transplantation. It is currently being evaluated in Phase 1/2 clinical trials (LIBERATE trial) involving adult patients who have undergone HLA-A2 mismatched liver transplants[1][5][7].
