Overview

QEL-002 is an engineered T-regulatory (Treg) cell therapy developed by Quell Therapeutics for the treatment of type 1 diabetes. It is a chimeric antigen receptor regulatory T cell (CAR-Treg) therapy designed to target and suppress the autoimmune response against pancreatic islet cells in early onset type 1 diabetes, aiming to prevent further beta cell loss, control dysglycemia, and reduce or eliminate the need for exogenous insulin. The drug functions as a regulatory T-lymphocyte replacement, leveraging immunologic cytotoxicity and immune modulation to restore immune tolerance in patients with type 1 diabetes[1][2][4].
