Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**QEV-817** is an investigational, immediate-release oral fixed-dose combination of hydrocodone bitartrate and doxapram hydrochloride developed by Quivive Pharma for acute pain. Hydrocodone provides analgesia through agonism of the mu-type opioid receptor, while doxapram is a respiratory stimulant intended to counter opioid-induced respiratory depression through stimulation of peripheral carotid-body chemoreceptor pathways. The product is designed to retain hydrocodone-like analgesia while improving safety in accidental or intentional opioid overconsumption. A Phase 1 study of the oral suspension has evaluated its safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetics in naltrexone-blocked healthy volunteers.
