Overview

The qHPV vaccine, also known as quadrivalent human papillomavirus vaccine, is a significant advancement in preventive medicine designed to protect against HPV infections that can lead to various cancers and genital warts. The qHPV vaccine is marketed under the brand name Gardasil and was the first FDA-approved HPV vaccine, becoming available in 2006[1][5]. It protects against four types of HPV: types 6, 11, 16, and 18[5]. HPV types 16 and 18 are responsible for approximately 70% of cervical cancers, while types 6 and 11 cause about 90% of sexually transmitted genital warts[5]. The vaccine provides protection against: - Cervical cancer - Anal cancer - Vulvar cancer - Vaginal cancer - Oropharyngeal (mouth and throat) cancer - Genital warts Long-term studies have demonstrated that the qHPV vaccine maintains high effectiveness against HPV-16/18 associated CIN2+ (cervical intraepithelial neoplasia grade 2 or higher) for up to 10 years after vaccination, with effectiveness remaining above 90%[10].
