Overview
Qi-Fang-Xi-Bi-Granules (QFXBGs) is a traditional Chinese herbal medicine formulation developed by Huadong Hospital Affiliated to Fudan University and the Spine Research Institute for the treatment of knee osteoarthritis. The formulation contains a combination of herbal and chemical components, including *Astragalus mongholicus*, tetrandrine methiodide, *Cyathula capitata*, ground beetle, *Rhizoma Atractylodis*, *Radix Angelica Sinensis*, and *Herba Epimedii*. Preclinical and clinical evidence suggests that QFXBGs alleviate joint degeneration by promoting the methylation of the promoter region of the CCAAT/enhancer-binding protein alpha (C/ebpα) gene, an epigenetic mechanism that helps maintain cartilage thickness and chondrocyte morphology. It is administered orally as granules and is currently commercially available in China, having been used in clinical practice for over two decades.
