Overview
Qi601 is a microbiome-derived biotherapeutic developed by Quorum Innovations to address the accumulation of micro- and nanoplastics in the gastrointestinal tract. It utilizes a proprietary "Biofilm Shield" technology based on a heat-inactivated biofilm matrix from the *Limosilactobacillus fermentum* Qi6 strain. This postbiotic matrix acts as a physical interceptor, naturally binding to and aggregating microplastic particles in the gut to prevent them from contacting or crossing the intestinal barrier. The underlying strain is recognized as safe by the FDA (GRAS Notice No. GRN 000988). The development of this biological barrier technology was supported by DARPA research into preventing harmful particles from crossing critical biological boundaries.
