Overview
Qian Zheng San is a classical Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formula first recorded in the 'Collected Formulas of the Yang Family' (Yang Shi Jia Zang Fang). It is a polyherbal preparation traditionally composed of three primary ingredients: Typhonii Rhizoma (Bai Fu Zi), Bombyx Batryticatus (stiff silkworm), and Scorpio (scorpion). Clinically, it is primarily used to treat central and peripheral nervous system disorders, most notably peripheral facial nerve paralysis (Bell's palsy), characterized by deviation of the eyes and mouth. Its therapeutic effects are attributed to its ability to improve vascular ischemic circulation, reduce inflammatory edema, and provide neuroprotection. Research suggests it may protect dopaminergic neurons, potentially through the modulation of mitochondrial ATP-sensitive potassium channels, making it a subject of study for Parkinson's disease and peripheral nerve injuries.
