Overview
Qiangxin Recipe is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formulation developed by the Shanghai Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It is primarily investigated as an adjunctive therapy for patients with chronic heart failure (Stage C) resulting from ischemic heart disease. The formulation is designed to address myocardial fibrosis and improve cardiac function by "tonifying Qi" and "activating blood circulation" according to TCM principles. Clinically, it is evaluated for its ability to reduce N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) levels, improve quality of life, and decrease the incidence of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE). Its pharmacological mechanism is thought to involve the inhibition of pro-fibrotic pathways, such as the TGF-beta/Smad signaling cascade, thereby limiting pathological ventricular remodeling.
