Qiangxinyin (QXY) is a traditional Chinese medicine formula that has been investigated for the treatment of heart failure. A preclinical study demonstrated its effectiveness in protecting against isoproterenol-induced cardiac hypertrophy and dysfunction in zebrafish and cardiomyocyte models. [6] The formula's mechanism is thought to involve blocking calcium influx, reducing oxidative stress by lowering malondialdehyde (MDA) levels, stimulating ATP production, and increasing mitochondrial membrane potential. [6] Key active ingredients identified within the formula that contribute to these cardioprotective effects include psoralen (PRN), kaempferol (KMP), and icariin (ICA). [6] Mechanistically, Qiangxinyin enhances the phosphorylation of SMAD2 and MYPT1 while suppressing the phosphorylation of the myosin light chain. [6]
