Overview

Qianliean is a traditional Chinese patent medicine formulated as a suppository for rectal administration. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of chronic prostatitis. The drug is composed of multiple herbal extracts, including Huang Bai (Cortex Phellodendri), Hu Zhang (Rhizoma Polygoni Cuspidati), Zhi Zi (Fructus Gardeniae), Da Huang (Radix et Rhizoma Rhei), Zelan (Lycopi Herba), Mao Dong Qing (Pubescent Holly Root), Wu Zhu Yu (Euodiae Fructus), Wei Ling Xian (Clematidis Radix et Rhizoma), Shi Chang Pu (Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma), and Li Zhi He (Litchi Semen). Its therapeutic effects are attributed to its ability to clear heat, relieve dampness, promote blood circulation, resolve stagnation, disperse nodules, and alleviate pain. A key active component, berberine from Huang Bai, has been shown to inhibit cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) and reduce inflammatory mediators, thereby modulating immune function.
