Qidan Tangshen granule is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formulation developed by LongHua Hospital, affiliated with the Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It is specifically designed for the treatment of early-stage diabetic kidney disease (DKD), also known as diabetic nephropathy. The formula's name is derived from its primary herbal components and its therapeutic target: 'Qi' refers to *Astragalus membranaceus* (Huangqi), 'Dan' refers to *Salvia miltiorrhiza* (Danshen), and 'Tangshen' (糖肾) is the clinical Chinese abbreviation for diabetic kidney disease. According to TCM principles, the granule works by tonifying Qi, promoting blood circulation, and nourishing the kidneys. Pharmacological studies indicate that the granule exerts renoprotective effects by reducing proteinuria, inhibiting pro-inflammatory cytokines, and downregulating fibrotic markers such as TGF-beta1, thereby slowing the progression of renal damage in diabetic patients.
