Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Qidong Huoxue Yin is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal formula used primarily for the treatment of acute lung injury (ALI) and related inflammatory conditions. It is a multi-herb decoction with demonstrated anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects in preclinical models. Mechanistically, it promotes the development of regulatory T cells (CD4+CD25+Foxp3+ Tregs) by enhancing Foxp3 transcription through increased acetylation at the Foxp3 promoter in CD4+ T cells and by inhibiting histone deacetylase activity. Additionally, it stabilizes β-catenin in macrophages to further support Treg development and modulates cytokine profiles to restore immune balance within lung tissue. Other studies indicate that it inhibits inflammation via suppression of caveolin-1 signaling pathways and downregulation of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-α, IL-6, IL-1β, as well as MyD88 expression[1][2][4][5]. Its primary clinical application is for ALI/ARDS; however, its use may extend to other inflammatory or immune-mediated pulmonary diseases.
