Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Qihuang Capsule is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formulation developed by the Chongqing Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine for the treatment of diabetic nephropathy. The formulation is primarily composed of extracts from *Astragalus membranaceus* (Huangqi) and *Rheum palmatum* (Dahuang). It is designed to address the TCM pattern of "Qi deficiency and blood stasis" commonly observed in chronic kidney disease. Mechanistically, Qihuang Capsule has been shown to reduce proteinuria, lower serum creatinine levels, and inhibit renal fibrosis and inflammation. These effects are largely attributed to the modulation of the TGF-beta1/Smad signaling pathway and the suppression of inflammatory mediators like NF-kappaB. It is typically utilized as an adjuvant therapy alongside standard diabetic care to delay the progression of renal damage in patients with diabetic kidney disease.
