Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Qihuang Granule (QHG) is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formula specifically developed for the treatment of dry age-related macular degeneration (dry AMD). It exerts its therapeutic effects by protecting the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) and the inner segment/outer segment (IS/OS) layers of the retina from oxidative stress-induced damage. Mechanistically, QHG appears to regulate the alternative complement pathway by promoting the expression of complement factor H (CFH) and inhibiting the production of pro-inflammatory complement components C3a and C5a. Additionally, it has been shown to alleviate mitochondrial damage in RPE cells, thereby preventing cell apoptosis and maintaining retinal structural integrity.
