Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Qihuang Jianpi Zishen Granule is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formulation developed by the First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui University of Chinese Medicine. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), with a particular focus on managing lupus nephritis. The formulation is designed according to the TCM principles of strengthening the spleen (Jianpi) and nourishing the kidney (Zishen). Pharmacological research suggests that the granule exerts its therapeutic effects by modulating the immune system and reducing inflammatory damage. Specifically, it has been shown to inhibit the TLR4/MyD88/NF-κB signaling pathway and restore the balance between Th17 and Treg cells, thereby suppressing the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as IL-17 and IL-6. It is currently utilized as a hospital preparation (yiyuan zhibei) in China and has been evaluated in several clinical trials for its efficacy in improving renal function and reducing disease activity in SLE patients.
