Overview

Qin Jiao Bie Jia Tang is a classic Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formula first recorded in the Song Dynasty text *Fu Ren Liang Fang* (Fine Formulas for Women). It is specifically indicated for "bone-steaming" fever, a condition characterized by chronic low-grade fever, night sweats, and a sensation of heat emanating from the bones, typically associated with yin deficiency. The formula is a complex mixture of botanical and animal-derived ingredients, including *Gentiana macrophylla* (Qin Jiao), *Trionyx sinensis* shell (Bie Jia), and *Artemisia annua* (Qing Hao). Pharmacologically, the formula exhibits antipyretic, anti-inflammatory, and immunomodulatory activities. It is thought to work by inhibiting pro-inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-alpha and IL-6, and modulating the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis to restore thermal homeostasis. In modern clinical settings, it is frequently used as an adjunctive treatment for chronic infectious diseases like tuberculosis and for managing symptoms of chronic fatigue or post-viral syndromes.
