Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Qing’e Pill is a classical multi-herb formula in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), first recorded in the 10th century. It is primarily used to tonify the kidneys and strengthen bones, with main indications including osteoporosis, postmenopausal osteoporosis, lumbodynia (lower back pain), and bone homeostasis disorders[3][4][5][6]. The canonical formulation contains four botanical ingredients: - Eucommia ulmoides Oliv. (Du Zhong) - Psoralea corylifolia L. (Bu Gu Zhi) - Juglans regia L. (Walnut) - Allium sativum L. (Garlic)[7] The pill acts by warming and reinforcing Kidney Yang according to TCM theory[3]. Modern pharmacological studies show that it exerts anti-inflammatory effects; regulates bone formation and remodeling; inhibits osteoblast ferroptosis via ATM Serine/Threonine Kinase and PI3K/AKT pathway; modulates AGE/RAGE signaling for osteogenesis and angiogenesis; influences estrogen signaling pathways; regulates gut microbiota; and impacts multiple molecular targets such as MAPK1, AKT1, PI3KCA, JAK2[6][7][8][10]. Its active compounds include quercetin and psoralen derivatives. Qing’e Pill is not a single chemical entity but a standardized herbal combination product.
