Overview
Qing-gan-jian-pi decoction is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formula developed by the Xi'an Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine for the treatment of Barrett's esophagus. The formula is designed based on the TCM principles of clearing liver heat (Qing Gan) and strengthening the spleen (Jian Pi), which addresses the underlying disharmony often observed in patients with chronic gastroesophageal reflux. It aims to alleviate clinical symptoms such as heartburn and acid regurgitation while promoting the repair of the esophageal mucosa. Clinical research conducted at the hospital suggests that the decoction may modulate inflammatory pathways, including the inhibition of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) and various pro-inflammatory cytokines, thereby potentially reducing the risk of progression from Barrett's esophagus to esophageal adenocarcinoma.
