Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Qing Re Huo Xue Decoction + methotrexate is a combination therapy consisting of a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal formula and the pharmaceutical drug methotrexate. Qing Re Huo Xue Decoction (QRHXD) is composed of multiple herbs such as Salvia miltiorrhiza (Danshen), Panax ginseng, Coptis chinensis, Pinellia ternata, Paeonia lactiflora, Panax notoginseng, Pueraria lobata, and Cistanche deserticola. This formula is traditionally used to "clear heat" and "activate blood circulation," with demonstrated effects on reducing inflammation and improving mitochondrial function in preclinical studies[2][4]. Methotrexate is a small molecule immunosuppressant that inhibits dihydrofolate reductase and other enzymes involved in nucleotide synthesis; it acts as an anchor disease-modifying antirheumatic drug (DMARD) for rheumatoid arthritis by suppressing immune-mediated inflammation[6][10]. The combination has been studied primarily for the treatment of active rheumatoid arthritis in integrative medicine approaches. Clinical trials suggest that combining QRHXD with methotrexate may improve efficacy while reducing adverse events compared to conventional DMARD regimens alone[1][7].
